SUMMARY:BELLE PLAINE\, BLAKE BERGLUND & LACHLAN NEVILLE
DESCRIPTION:Lyric Theatre presents Belle Plaine\, Blake Berglund and Lachlan Neville as they share the stage in a songwriter’s round style evening of collaborations and stories. The performance showcases the music that has landed them individually on stages with Dwight Yoakam\, Tyler Childers\, Marty Stuart and Colter Wall. This unique and intimate show is sure to rouse audiences of all ages. \nBelle Plaine is an independent\, award-winning songwriter working on her fourth full-length studio album\, The Weather. Her stylistic prowess has her live performance backed by symphony orchestras and honky tonk bar-bands. Melanie Berglund is a writer\, producer and mother\, having directed her debut documentary “Belle Plaine & Blake Berglund: Living From Home”. She has been rewarded with festival spots such as at Small Halls on Prince Edward Island\, Regina Folk Festival and appearances at industry events like Americanafest\, Folk Alliance International and JUNOfest. \nBlake Berglund is a producer\, multi-instrumentalist\, songwriter and storyteller. He released his sixth full-length album\, a double LP concept record and manifesto\, What’s Left of the Right. Treading new sonic territory\, the self-produced collection of 20 songs is a multi-genre political statement and rural memoir. With industry nominations\, awards and showcases\, Berglund is leveraging his recognition by founding label and publishing company\, Western Seer Records\, alongside his partner and collaborator Melanie Berglund (A.K.A. Belle Plaine). \nLachlan Neville is a recent graduate from Rocanville High School and a seasoned songwriter. He has worked alongside Juno award winning producer Steve Dawson as a winner of the Nashville-based Henhouse Express Jr. Songwriting Competition and appeared at festivals including Big Flat Folk Festival\, Gateway Festival\, Ness Creek Music Festival\, Northern Lights Bluegrass Festival and All Folk’d Up. Influenced by Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen\, Lachlan’s self-titled debut album\, produced by Blake Berglund\, is set for release on Western Seer Records in 2025. \nPROMOTIONAL LINKS \nBELLE PLAINE\nInstagram: www.instagram.com/belleplainemusic\nSubstack: The Weather Report – belleplainemusic.substack.com\nMusic Videos:\n“Laila Sady Johnson Wasn’t Beaten By No Train”\n\n“9 to 5” (Dolly Parton Cover)\n \nBLAKE BERGLUND\nInstagram: www.instagram.com/blakeberglund\nSubstack: The Straight & The Narrow – blakeberglund.substack.com\nMusic Videos:\n“Farming Wives feat. SUMMARY:SEASON OPENER Write Out Loud with Author Sharon Butala
DESCRIPTION:Sharon Butala – Leaving Wisdom and How to Breathe Water \nA road trip through the prairies prompts acclaimed writer Sharon Butala to unearth the stories of the natural world around her\, and at the same time revisit her own personal histories. Taking stock of the people and places she has lost and left behind brings her to the ultimate confrontation – with mortality – which she explores with uncommon wisdom and frankness. Butala’s most intimate work to date\, How to Breathe Water is a love letter to the lands and waters of the prairies and a stirring exploration of the places and moments that mark and mold our lives. \nSharon Butala\, an Officer of the Order of Canada\, is the award-winning author of twenty three books of fiction and nonfiction and five produced plays. She is a three-time finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award\, and is a recipient of the Glengarry Book Award\, the Marian Engel Award\, the Saskatchewan Order of Merit\, the Cheryl and Henry Kloppenburg Award for Literary Excellence\, the City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize\, and three honourary doctorates. She lives in Saskatoon. \nShawn Mooney is a Saskatoon-based BookTuber (“BookTube” is the community of avid readers with channels on YouTube). SUMMARY:CANCELLED Write Out Loud with Author Misty Rae
DESCRIPTION:Doors @ 6:30pm $8 Admission \nOpener: TBA @7pm \nTBA will follow Misty Rae \nEvent Sponsors Stark and Marsh \nMisty Rae is an award-winning\, mixed-race writer currently living in Morse\, SK with her husband and 2 dogs. Born and raised in Oromocto\, New Brunswick\, she enjoyed a rewarding career as a lawyer before leaving the practice to follow her passion for the written word.  When she’s not writing\, she can be found out in nature\, taking photos or picking wildflowers. \nAbout her book \nParis was born and raised a slave on a South Carolina rice plantation. As a young boy\, he used to look up at the birds\, flying freely above him. He longed to be free like the birds\, but in 18th century\, pre-Revolutionary times\, it seemed impossible. However\, when the British came seeking slaves willing to desert their masters to fight their cause\, a 15-year-old Paris saw his chance\, and took it. \nBased on a real-life Black Loyalist\, Paris O’Ree\, I Ran So You Could Fly (The Paris O’Ree Story) is a heartwarming\, coming-of-age fictional account of a young man’s search for and finding of freedom\, not only for himself but for the generations that came after him. \nIn the face of adversity\, prejudice\, hunger\, pain\, punishments and heartache\, he persevered in his pursuit of freedom and found it. He ran so he could fly like the birds he once admired. He ran to free himself and to provide a legacy of liberty to his descendants. Never would they know the chains of bondage. He ran so they could fly.
