SUMMARY:Slow Leaves - Opener Corbin Switzer
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 pm\nShow starts 8 pm\nTickets $22.50 advance SCROLLING DOWN to get tickets\n$30 at door\n+ taxes and fees \nSlow Leaves is the project of Winnipeg’s Grant Davidson. He writes songs about the vulnerability of being a human\, returning often to themes of love\, loss\, death\, connection\, loneliness\, family\, memory\, and time. His folk and psych-rock inclinations\, though rooted in the tradition of former fingerpicking songwriters\, are unbound in today’s post-genre landscape. “I don’t write sad songs\, I write lonely songs\,” he muses regarding his last record\, In Solitude\, For Company. It’s within this honesty of expression that listeners have found comfort in knowing that none of us are truly alone in our thoughts\, that beauty reveals itself in vulnerability\, that poetry lives in the most banal of moments. He has been nominated for several Western Canadian Music Awards and won Songwriter of the Year in 2022. On his newest release and sixth Slow Leaves album of new material\, The Ruins of Things Unfinished\, Davidson explores his thoughts on ambition and the long setting sun of a life dedicated to art and family. “I’ve somehow made a career of self-perceived failure\,” he writes. “I’ve often reflected on whether that mindset fulfills\nits own prophecy: quite possibly. But I think at heart\, I’m not seeking greatness\, at least not outside my own little world. Or maybe I’ve simply given up on misplaced ambitions. My ambition now is a life of greatness in small spaces\, a private fame in close quarters\, a life so intimate it need only whisper its declarations of love and victory.” The Ruins of Things Unfinished cam out in May 2026 on Birthday Cake Records and Make My Day in G/S/A and Benelux. \nOpener\nCorbin Switzer is a Canadian singer-songwriter known for his thoughtful lyrics and melodic storytelling. His music blends folk\, indie\, and acoustic elements\, creating intimate performances that connect deeply with audiences. He is also the host of Every Song Has a Story – The Songwriter’s Podcast\, where he explores the narratives behind songs.

SUMMARY:Andrew Collins Trio
DESCRIPTION:Doors: 7 pm\nShow:  7:30 pm\nTickets:  $30 + taxes and fees SCROLLING DOWN to get tickets \n“This is some mighty mandolinin’\, from Canada’s eight-string king.” Bob Mersereau’s Top 100 Canadian Blogspot “The level of musicianship is outstanding\, as you’d expect from a serial award winner such as Andrew Collins. He must be one of the best mandolin players in the business” Americana – UK “Collins is a staggering mandolin player\, able to achieve extraordinary speed\, variety and nuance\, whilst also being equally fluent on mandocello\, mandola\, guitar and violin. And that’s just on this album: the band appears to switch and shape-shift between instruments and roles with absolute assurance and ease… phenomenally talented…” Folking.com – UK “Nimble fretwork\, old-timey\, ragtimey\, in the genial opening set from Canadian mandolinist Andrew Collins and his trio” The Scotsman Mando maestro Andrew Collins finds himself – through no actual fault of his own – at the epicentre of Canada’s acoustic/roots music scene. He didn’t invent it – but he’s certainly been a major contributor\, having co-founded seriously noteworthy Canadian bands like the Creaking Tree String Quartet\, the Foggy Hogtown Boys and\, more recently\, his namesake Trio. That’s not to mention the fact that this robust performer – comfortable on mandolin\, fiddle\, guitar\, mandola and mandocello – composes\, produces\, arranges\, writes and teaches across multiple genres\, including a freewheeling fusion of folk\, acoustic roots\, newgrass and even a dash of chamber where warranted 🙂 As Collins gathers up innumerable JUNO nominations (5) and Canadian Folk Music Awards (7) won by his various ensembles\, he’s zeroing in on the work he does with Trio mates:  fellow string guru Adam Shier\, whose versatility shines through on guitar and mandolin\, and in-the-pocket James McEleney holding it down on the bass\, mandocello and harmony vocals. Showcasing a dizzying number of styles and instruments on stage\, Collins and Co. appear to live by the old adage\, “idle hands are the devil’s workshop”\, likely keeping them just ahead of his grasp. Bending and blending genres\, these musical shape shifters land somewhere between the re-imagined worlds of Béla Fleck\, Newgrass invader David Grisman and the legendary Yo Yo Ma! The Trio recently released their aptly titled album\, “The Rule of Three”\, drawing inspiration from the literary principle that a trio of elements is more impactful\, intricately weaving together visual and literary art’s “rule of thirds. The album was\, serendipitously enough\, nominated for 3 Canadian Folk Music Awards! Here at The Lyric Theatre on Sept 23rd\, they’re releasing “Retro”\, a treasure trove of Andrew’s signature tracks over the years with fresh arrangements and spirited trio interplay. From blazing bluegrass to jazzy waltzes and classical reinterpretations\, Retro shows that great music evolves through honouring its roots.

SUMMARY:Write Out Loud Prairie Quills Writers’ Group 25th Anniversary Celebration - Tickets at the Door
DESCRIPTION:Doors @ 6:30pm $10 Admission\nBegins @7pm \nThe Prairie Quills Writers’ Group is marking 25 years of celebrating words\, ideas\, and\ncommunity. The group was conceived in November\, 2001\, by the facilitator and five members of\nan adult writing class offered by Cypress Hills Regional College (now Grasslands College).\nWriters often work in isolation\, so belonging to a like-minded group provides positive\nreinforcement as well as constructive criticism towards growth. \nDozens of writers from Southwest Saskatchewan have taken membership since inception. The\ngroup provides education through regular meetings\, retreats\, and numerous workshops facilitated\nby award-winning authors\, often supported by the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild. The Swift\nCurrent Library is a close partner as Prairie Quills has hosted Listening Circles and biannual\nmember readings there. Prairie Quills members have mentored children and sponsored poetry\nand prose competitions for youth. Often\, they take part in readings as outreach for Swift Current\nSeniors and Canadian Mental Health Association clients. \nClub meetings now utilize an online presence to include those for whom distance or weather is\nan issue. From one published author in 2001\, several Prairie Quills writers now have books\npublished in a variety of genres. \nDuring this Write Out Loud launch of their anthology\, 25 – Anniversary Edition\, 11 members\nwill read brief excerpts. Anthologies will be for sale at $20. \nAs always\, Write Out Loud thanks the City of Swift Current for their support.\n-For more information: Terry Toews: t.toews@sasktel.net or Dianne Miller: dorm@sasktel.net \nEvent Sponsors TBA

SUMMARY:The Grapes Of Wrath
DESCRIPTION:Doors open 7:00 pm;\nEvent start 7:30 pm\nTickets: $35 + Taxes and Fees Right here!! \nAn Acoustic Duo\nFans of Canadian music from the late 1980s/early 1990s are likely familiar with The Grapes Of Wrath\, whose 60s inspired harmonies were a staple on Canadian radio\, Much Music and Musique Plus. Songs such as “Peace Of Mind”\, “What Was Going Through My Head”\, “You May Be Right”\, Backward Town”\, “I Am Here”\, and “All The Things I Wasn’t” – along with relentless touring – helped the band earn a gold and 2 platinum album certifications. Formed in 1978 when Kevin and Tom – along with Tom’s brother Chris on drums – began playing together in the Hooper’s basement when Kevin and Chris were 13 and Tom was just 10. Between 1984 and 1992 the band released and EP and 4 albums\, moving from first label Nettwerk Productions to an international deal with Capital/EMI. The band disbanded in 1992\, but Tom and Kevin revived the Grapes in the late 90s for the album “Field Trip” (2000) and welcomed Chris back to the fold in 2010\, performing and occasionally recording ever since. While the band still work together\, Kevin and Tom have started performing as an acoustic duo\, featuring reworked versions of the band’s hits\, album deep cuts\, and even a few new numbers to enthusiastic audiences eager to hear their old favorites and the stories behind the songs. \nhttps://www.bonsound.com/fr/artiste/the-grapes-of-wrath/

SUMMARY:2 Pianos\, No Rodeo
DESCRIPTION:This isn’t a concert.\nIt’s a piano seance in two acts. \nBob Wiseman and Mike Boguski\, two of Canada’s most unpredictable keyboard minds are taking turns dismantling and reimagining what a solo piano set can be. \nOne piano\, Two artists. Zero cowboy hats. \nBob Wiseman- Founding member of Blue Rodeo\, punk pianist\, Lo-fi provocateur. Think Monk meets Burroughs at a Toronto dive bar. Expect sound collage\, biting satire\, sonic left turns. Nothing’s off limits.\nMike Boguski- Current Blue Rodeo pianist. Ambient soul explorer. A master of restraint and reverie. Piano as landscape. Melody as memory. Quiet storms and cinematic swells. Musical cliff jumping \nDoors 7pm\nShow 730pm\n2 50min sets\n$30 Tickets \nEach artists takes the same piano and launches in opposite directions – solo\, stripped down\, wide open.\nOne piano. Two deeply personal journeys.\nNo safety net. No genre crutches. No rodeo.\nCome for the clash of styles.\nStay for the communion.\nThis is piano as protest\, as prayer or as whatever they feel that night. \n“Two Pianos\, No Rodeo” is for those who like their art live\, unexpected and slightly dangerous. Think of it less like a show and more like two sonic postcards from different planets sent through the same grand piano.
